Toolkit
Audience Culture Toolkit
A short framework for communities that want to build stronger collective norms around attention and live participation.
1. Name the value.
People cooperate more when they understand what is being protected.
2. Use examples.
Share stories, photos, reflections and moments that show what a more present event feels like.
3. Avoid moral superiority.
The point is not to divide people into good and bad audience members. The point is to invite a better shared experience.
4. Build small rituals.
One opening request, one collective pause, one agreed moment of attention can gradually shape expectation.
5. Celebrate the result.
When an event feels especially connected, say so. Culture grows when people can recognise it happening.
This toolkit is especially useful for collectives, scene communities and recurring event formats that want long-term change rather than one-off control.
